How is neuropathy diagnosed?

Neuropathy is diagnosed through a thorough exam and testing. First we evaluate for signs of muscle weakness, numbness, and impaired reflexes. Lab tests may be ordered to detect any underlying disease or genetic cause for poor nerve function. We can also use electromyogram (EMG) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) tests to assess nerve and muscle function and measure the electrical properties of your nerves. Finally, nerve and muscle biopsies may be performed to attain more information.
